Chiquita concentreert overslag bananen op Vlissingen

De grootse bananenproducent van de wereld Chiquita gaat de importstromen van bananen in Europa grotendeels verleggen naar Vlissingen.

Dat heeft het bedrijf enkele dagen geleden medegedeeld op de vakbeurs Fruit Logistica in Berlijn.

Daarbij zal Chiquita de conventionele reeferschepen van de Great White Fleet al vanaf deze week alleen nog maar naar Vlissingen dirigeren en het Duitse Bremerhaven uit het vaarschema schrappen. Overslagbedrijf Kloosterboer in de Zeeuwse haven profiteert van de strategische beslissing.

In het Duitse vakblad DVZ zegt een woordvoerder van Kloosterboer uit te gaan van een verdubbeling van het ladingaanbod door het besluit van Chiquita. De bananenproducent die vorig jaar werd overgenomen door Cutrale-Safra, een Braziliaanse exporteur van fruitsappen, maakte vorig jaar van Vlissingen al een belangrijke overslagpunt in Europa. Kloosterboer wikkelde daarbij in 2015 al 170.000 ton af voor de nieuwe klant.

Grote verliezer is het overslagbedrijf Heuer Logistics in Bremerhaven. Het bedrijf waarover de voormalig directeur-eigenaar Jan Ebus van het failliete Rotterdamse Ebrex lange tijd de scepter heeft gezwaaid, zou volgens waarnemers wel eens de helft van het jaarlijkse bananenvolume van 300.000 ton, kunnen verliezen. ‘Het doet ons zeker pijn, maar we zullen er niet aan overlijden’, zegt directeur Matthias Hasselder van Heuer Logistics in Bremerhaven.

Volgens de Duitse topman verliest Heuer Logistics niet het gehele ladingspakket van Chiquita. ‘De bananen van de internationale fruithandelaar op de containerdiensten richting Bremerhaven blijven bij het Duitse overslagbedrijf’, verzekert Hasselder.
