Bundeling van kleinschalige containerstromen op een Barge Service Center (BSC) biedt duidelijke voordelen voor binnenvaart en containerterminals in de Rotterdamse haven. Dat blijkt uit een recente studie door Mercator Novus in opdracht van het Centraal Bureau voor de Rijn- en Binnenvaart (CBRB) en de Kramer Group. In 2014 komen op de Tweede Maasvlakte twee nieuwe containerterminals in bedrijf: APMT2 en RWG. Het aantal containerterminals en het aantal aanlooppunten voor de binnenvaart verdubbelt nagenoeg. Dit levert extra logistieke vraagstukken op. Binnenvaartschepen moeten dan meer terminals langs en lopen zo sneller vertraging op. Containerterminals moeten meer kleine plukjes containers afhandelen. Bij het verwerken van kleine aantallen containers stijgen de kosten per container substantieel, zowel voor de binnenvaart als voor de containerterminals. Een Barge Service Center kan containers van een binnenvaartschip die bestemd zijn voor verschillende containerterminals, in één keer lossen, waarna containers over land naar de omringende containerterminals worden gebracht. Deze manier van werken geeft binnenvaartschepen beter te plannen afvaarten met minder vertragingen. Containerterminals vermijden ongunstige kleine overslagaantallen per binnenvaartschip. En de besparingen in de keten wegen op tegen de extra behandelingskosten. Een Barge Service Center maakt de binnenvaart ook aantrekkelijker voor verladers, doordat er via het BSC in principe een dagelijkse dienst op alle containerterminals mogelijk is. Verder is het een neutrale oplossing: het vraagt geen ingewikkelde samenwerking tussen concurrenten.

Qatar, August 15, 2023 – QTerminals Group (51% Qatar Ports Management Company Q.C.S.C (Mwani Qatar) and 49% Qatar Navigation Q.P.S.C (Milaha)) has acquired a majority stake in “Kramer Holding B.V.”, a provider of integrated logistics and container services located in the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The acquisition of Kramer Group represents an important milestone in the expansion of QTerminals, as the Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe and is a significant addition to QTerminals Group’s record of success in diversifying its operations. In addition, this acquisition further reinforces QTerminals Group’s commitment to contribute towards Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims for the diversification of the national economy and foreign investments.
