Rotterdam, RCT van Kramer officieel geopend

In havenkringen bestond vooraf de nodige scepsis over zijn plannen, maar vader Marcel en zoon André Kramer zetten door.

In de schaduw van de grote Delta-terminal van ECT en die van APM-T (Maersk) op de Maasvlakte vond gistermiddag de officiële opening plaats van Kramers eigen Rotterdam Container Terminal (RCT), een terminal speciaal voor het laden en lossen van containerkustvaarders en binnenvaartschepen.
De Kramers voorzagen enkele jaren terug al dat er grote behoefte zou ontstaan aan overslagcapaciteit voor dit soort schepen.
RCT draait al sinds oktober op proef en sinds 1 januari van dit jaar volledig. Op een zestien hectare groot terrein op de kop van de Hartelhaven staan nu twee grote portaalkranen en een mobiele kraan in opvallend donkerblauw met oranje aan een 460 meter lange kade. Containers kunnen vanaf het schip direct op het spoor, binnenschip of truck worden gezet.
Toen de kranen er nog maar net stonden, meldden zich al de eerste klanten: buurman APM-T en kustvaartrederijen die vanuit Rotterdam de containers uit Azië verder distribueren over andere Europese havens.
Het Havenbedrijf Rotterdam liet afgelopen week nog een laatste vuiltje voor het optimaal functioneren van de RCT-terminal opruimen. Uit de Hartelhaven zijn de laatste resten van het wrak van het in 1876 voor de kust vergane ss Groningen opgevist. Het 110 meter lange wrak versperde deels de entree en de ligplaats van RCT.
Commissaris van de Koningin Jan Franssen kwam gisteren naar de Maasvlakte om de openingshandeling te verrichten, het afvuren van een aantal kanonsslagen.
De Rotterdam Container Terminal is goed voor de overslag van 300.000 containers per jaar.

The acquisition of the Kramer Group by QTerminals allows its entry and presence in the largest port in Europe which makes QTerminals Group’s position stronger in relation to future opportunities in Europe and other developed global markets.
The presence of QTerminals in the Port of Rotterdam is strategic and reputable for QTerminals Group in particular and for the State of Qatar in general as QTerminals Group’s profile will become known in the largest European port..
